I Meant to Work Out

MABO the penguin decided that, starting today,
it would become a better version of itself.

It laid out the yoga mat,
got its weights and water ready,
and lay down with great determination.

It only meant to rest for five minutes,
but found that even while resting,
it was still thinking about the next thing to do.

So it closed its eyes,
practising thinking about nothing,
and practising not rushing itself.

As it turned out, some things
don’t get better just because you try harder.
