The Umbrella Leans Your Way

The rain grew heavier and heavier.
The girl tilted the red umbrella a little toward the dog.

The little dog looked up
and noticed its ears were still dry,
while a small patch of the girl’s shoulder was wet.

It couldn’t understand
why the umbrella always leaned to one side.

After thinking for a long while,
it quietly edged a little closer to her.

The rain kept falling,
and neither said a word.

She was afraid it would get wet.
It was afraid she would feel alone.
